I never got the opportunity to come across a cute echidna in the wild, but had the pleasure of seeing one in the Healesville Sanctuary. Echidnas with all its splendor are truly unique creatures. Echidnas are spiny mammals that are native to Australia and New Guinea. They are one of only two mammals in the world that lay eggs, the other being the platypus. Echidnas can dig up to 3 feet in the ground to find food and make their homes. They have a long snout, also known as a bald beak, which they use to detect food, and their long tongues help them lick up ants and termites. Echidnas have a unique appearance and behavior, making them a very interesting creature. They are also amazing swimmers!

Nunca tuve la oportunidad de encontrarme con un lindo equidna en la naturaleza, pero tuve el placer de ver uno en el Santuario de Healesville. Los equidnas con todo su esplendor son criaturas verdaderamente únicas. Los equidnas son mamíferos espinosos que son nativos de Australia y Nueva Guinea. I thought it would be cute to write a story about the echidna and its unique features. I took the time to explain what it looks like and what it can do. They are such cute little creatures but be careful not to touch them! You might end up with a spine or two.
